size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt><\/dl><br style=\"clear: both\" \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>After leaving Tansania we entered Northern Malawi. We are still travelling southwards. Malawi is one of the smaller countries in Africa and it is easy to travel around. People are very friendly. We have started to run into more backpackers and some big overland trucks. Most tourists visit the lake shore of Lake Malawi and the mountains around it. So did we. Relaxed a bit first and then off into the mountains. It must have been the shortest driving day of this trip, only 10 km from the lake shore to the town of Livingstonia. Very steep uphill, big stones, unpaved road with very sharp curves and we really needed our 4 wheel drive. The car showed us again how powerful it is and it took us more than one hour to get up there. Enjoyed the wonderful views, visited the waterfalls and relaxed at Lukwe campsite. Further southwards we stayed at the Mvasa Reserve, camped along a small lake (very little water, they are waiting for the rainy season to start) full with hippos, many birds, antelope and warthogs. And in the lake a huge crocodile who showed us how he caught a big fish. Very impressive and you do stay away from the lake shore after that! We spent another two days at the lakeshore before we visited Bua River Camp. Not much wildlife in the area, except crocodiles, but a beautiful campsite\/lodge along the almost dry river and great food. That night the first big rain did finally come; good for the land, the animals, the plants. Good for everything but the roads. The next morning when we wanted to leave uphill for the campsite our tires got covered with sticky red mud, we lost grip, slided back down and then: Stuck! Yes, we got the car stuck for the very first time during this trip. Low gear 4 wheel drive, diff-locks on, sand ladders under the wheels,it did not work in this sticky red stuff. Finally we needed 4 men and a Landrover (oops, thank you John) to pull us out! I think we made some nice photos there J.<\/p>\n<p>Via the capital Lilongwe we are travelling west to the border of Zambia. We are still loving the many different faces of Africa, our car and this way of travelling. Hard to hear about snow in Holland and Germany. Hhhmm, what is snow? Take care, until the next one!<\/p>\n<p>Dela speaking J: Nordmalawi am Ende der Trockenzeit ist ein ocker-goldenes verdorrtes Land voller Armut. Trotz der N\u00e4he des riesigen Malawi-Sees geben die B\u00f6den nichts her, und auch wenn man Geld hat, es gibt einfach nichts zu kaufen. Am Stra\u00dfenrand immer wieder nur Tomaten und kleine silbrige getrocknete Stinkfische, sonst nichts. In den Superm\u00e4rkten eigentlich nur Zahnpasta, Seife und Waschmittel, vielleicht noch etwas \u00d6l und ein paar S\u00e4cke Reis und das zu sogar f\u00fcr uns v\u00f6llig aberwitzigen \u00fcberzogenen Preisen. Das einzige was einigermassen erschwinglich ist, ist Brot, Wasser und Bier. Ok, zugegeben, damit kommen wir schon ziemlich weit\u2026 \ud83d\ude09 Wir bekommen aber wieder einen Eindruck davon wie sich Armut anf\u00fchlt. Trotzdem sind die Menschen freundlich und warmherzig, sind bunt angezogen, singen und gehen auf jeden unserer Sp\u00e4\u00dfe ein. Und dazwischen f\u00fchren all diese Backpacker und Overlander ihr Backpacker- und Overlanderleben wie \u00fcberall sonst auf der Welt. Und es gibt sogar einige recht luxuri\u00f6se Logdes mit stylishen Bars, Stoffservietten und Designer-Au\u00dfenduschen, auch wenn sie mit Holz befeuert werden. F\u00fcr uns hat das etwas Sch\u00f6nes aber auch Unwirkliches.<\/p>\n<p>Fast noch unwirklicher erscheint es uns, als Bernd und Ronnie, zwei richtig nette Afrikareisende aus Greifswald, uns darauf hinweisen, dass erster Advent ist. Und ja, Ronnie, der erst eine Woche zuvor in Daressalam zugestiegen ist, hat selbstgebackene Weihnachtspl\u00e4tzchen dabei, und wir feiern mit den beiden stilecht bei Kerzenschein unter einer Palme am Malawisee Advent. Rolf, Du kannst Leonie ausrichten, sie hat nun wirklich keinen Grund mehr, nicht nach Afrika kommen J<\/p>\n<p>Der Sturzregen der pl\u00f6tzlich mit 4cm Wasser in einer einzigen Nacht auf dieses v\u00f6llig vertrocknete Land hereinbricht, lehrt uns einmal mehr Respekt vor der Kraft der Natur \u2013 und dass Sandbleche eben Sandbleche sind und keine Matschbleche \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Wir brechen voller Spannung auf nach Sambia wo die Regenzeit gerade begonnen hat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After leaving Tansania we entered Northern Malawi.
